Specifications

Optics

Optical type: Bahtinov focusing mask

Compatibility

Compatibility: Celestron C11 SCT / EdgeHD HyperStar systems

Use

Primary use: Critical focus checks on HyperStar optical trains

Astrophotography Fit

Best for quick, repeatable focus checks on compatible HyperStar systems.

HyperStar 2-Piece Bahtinov Mask creates a diffraction pattern that makes focus easier to judge than star size alone. It is a setup and verification tool, not an optical corrector.

Use it on the compatible aperture and remove it before imaging. It will not solve tilt, collimation, or spacing problems in the HyperStar train.

Best paired with

Compatible HyperStar-equipped SCTs
Bright stars near the target field for focus checks
Capture workflows without reliable autofocus

Not recommended for

Leaving in place during actual exposures
Non-HyperStar apertures or unsupported telescope sizes
Fixing collimation, tilt, or tracking issues
