Specifications

Accessory type: Atmospheric dispersion corrector

Mechanical

Barrel size: 1.25"

Use

Primary use: Corrects atmospheric color dispersion for planetary imaging

Astrophotography Fit

Best for high-resolution planetary imaging when targets sit low enough for color fringing to soften detail.

ZWO 1.25-inch ADC sits in the planetary imaging path and counteracts the prism-like color spread caused by Earth's atmosphere. It matters most below moderate altitudes, where blue and red detail no longer land in the same place.

It is a tuning accessory, not a magic sharpness filter. Collimation, focus, seeing, and camera sampling still set the ceiling.

Best paired with

Planetary cameras on SCTs, Maksutovs, or long refractors
Barlows or Powermates used for high effective focal ratio
RGB planetary capture where color alignment matters

Not recommended for

Wide-field deep-sky imaging trains
Targets near the zenith where dispersion is minimal
Beginners hoping to fix poor collimation or bad seeing
